October 22, 1919 [OT]: “Fishing schooner dashed to pieces. San Pedro. October 22. The fishing schooner Alvra, valued at $7000 and owned here, went ashore on Santa Cruz Island early today, and was dashed to pieces on the rocks. Paul Mangis, owner, and Tony Mangis, the only men aboard, were rescued by the schooner Oceana as they struggled in the water after their boat had been battered to pieces. Paul Mangis suffered two fractured ribs. The vessel was used in lobster fishing.”
