Aurora (#239980) (1940-1952+), 79-foot 122-ton wood-hulled fishing vessel built in Tacoma, Washington. The vessel burned while at anchor off Santa Cruz Island on November 7, 1952. Two men were injured. Aurora was rebuilt in 1954 and renamed the Jo Ann. [MVUS 1953/1954]

November 8, 1952 [LAT]: “Two men were burned, one critically, in a fire last night aboard the 42-foot fishing boat Aurora, anchored at Santa Cruz Island, the Coast Guard reported. Names of the men were not immediately available. The Navy dispatched a crash boat with a doctor and hospital corps man from Port Hueneme, and the Coast Guard sent a patrol boat from Santa Barbara to the scene of the fire, which was first reported by Navy personnel stationed on the island.”
