March 23, 1927 [The Catalina Islander]: “Avalon’s telephone exchange has grown from 359 telephones to 513 telephones since its establishment on July 1920, according to Fred W. Smith, manager of The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company. The growth, Mr. Smith stated, has been in a steady trend, with no declines or extreme jumps.. The year following the establishment of telephone service here, Avalon had 359 telephones.

In 1922, there were 391 telephones;

in 1923, 398;
in 1924, 436;
in 1925, 476;
in 1926, 492.”
