August 18, 1925 [LAT]: “Decisions in two libels in admiralty were handed down yesterday by Federal Judge McCormick. They were filed by Miss Mary F. Hogan and Miss Florence Salla, administratrix of the estate of Nicholas Bastistich, against Marco H. Hellman and the Hellman Trust and Savings Bank in connection with the drownings in June, 1923, of Nicholas Bastistich. Bastistich was cook on the fishing vessel Traveler, lent to the narcotic crusade by Hellman for the purpose of making a trip to the San Clemente Island to investigate the island as a refuge for drug addicts. The cook was drowned off Catalina Island during rough weather. Suit if Miss Hogan was denied, but that of Miss Sala resulted in a verdict of damages amounting to $1250, part to Miss Sala and the remainder to relatives of the dead man.”
