August 30, 2013 [TI/Avalon]: “Catalina Island is known for its many and varied fishing tournaments, but none is its history has been anything like the Church Mouse. For the past 23 years the Church Mouse Marlin Tournament has grown into one of the most fun things to do on Catalina Island and one of the highest achieving philanthropies our community has ever known. The tournament's objective is to bring good people together for great fun and fishing while helping Catalina Island youth groups at the same time. For the past 23 years this objective has been met — and then some... However, it is so much more than just fun: it's about community. Even more impressive than the $1 million donated to Island youth over the past 23 years (it made $73,000 this year alone) is the number of young people who have been positively affected by this tournament... Of course the words Church Mouse have been synonymous with the Butte family. Bob and Carol Butte, their daughters Maggie and Kim, and their entire extended family have worked tirelessly for the past twenty-three years to make this tournament what it is today...”

October 10, 2014 [TI/Avalon]: “The Butte family announces the death of Bob Butte, husband, father, brother, and lifelong friend of Catalina Island. For generations the Butte family has exemplified kindness and respect for the people and wildlife of Catalina. Within this honorable legacy, Bob's life stands out as exceptional. He set high expectations for himself and others, and was eager to serve his Island family. While his life ended far too soon, now is the time for his family and friends to continue to pursue the goals and traditions that the Butte family has always maintained, and that Bob in particular worked so tirelessly to realize. He would want us to live as he did, to love and enjoy the sea and each other, and to be of service to our community, as he always was. Bob is survived by his wife Carol, and his daughters Maggie and Kimberly, who could never have asked for a better husband, father and friend. We can and should all aspire to be like Bob. He was always happy, and he would want us all to smile because we knew him. He will be dearly missed...”
