U.S.S. Burrfish (1943-1969) was a Balao-class submarine — a ship of the United States Navy named for the burrfish, a swellfish of the Atlantic coast. The submarine was recommissioned on January 17, 1961 as SS-312, decommissioned on May 11, 1961, and loaned to Canada, where she was commissioned in the Royal Canadian Navy as HMCS Grilse (SS-71). She was returned to US Navy custody and struck from the Naval Register, on July 19, 1969. Burrfish was sunk as a target off San Clemente Island, CA., on November 19, 1969.
