CATALINA SOUVENIR SPOONS: BATES & KLINKE, ATTLEBORO, MA

Founded in 1919 by Harold Bates and Oscar F. Klinke. Manufacturing jewelers and silversmiths, many souvenir spoons. Still active in the jewelry business in 1975. Bates and Klinke, Inc. appears to have made at least one post-1929 Catalina souvenir spoon design in both teaspoon and demitasse sizes, according to Santa Catalina Island spoon research historian, Harry V. Merrick.

Their Santa Catalina Island spoons are very rare and hard to come by. According to spoon collector, Andrew Kwiat, the Catalina souvenir spoon was made late in the years that spoon collecting was no longer popular. It might have commercially failed thus very few were made and sold resulting in it being rare.

The handle/stem is embossed AVALON BAY.
