COALE, Henry Kelso (1858-1926) was an internationally respected amateur ornithologist and bird collector with "one of the finest private collections of stuffed birds in the United States." He helped established the collections for the Field Museum of Chicago and the British Museum. He acquired many of the birds in his collection through exchange with foreign collectors. In 1936 the Field Museum acquired a great portion of his specimens.

Coale died in 1926. He is buried in North Chicago's Northshore Garden of Memories.
