On August 22nd, Bing Crosby, famous movie and radio star, and member of the Tuna Club, was out fishing with Capt. Parker Pence aboard the launch Shorty II, when he hooked up with a marlin swordfish which evidently thought Bing was easy; but, after an argument which lasted 45 minutes, Mister Marlin was whipped and brought laongside to be gaffed by Parker. Then a quick run in was made to weigh the fish, as it sure looked like a button winner. However, it drew the scale at 188 pounds, much to the disappointment of the angler and the disgust of the huge crowd which had assembled to see the fish weighed, as the news spread that Bing Crosby's first marlin. He was sure happy over his catch, and is hoping to be here again very soon... ”
