July 10, 1925 [News-Herald, Franklin, PA]: “Dr. Joseph T. Danforth, of Warren, Pa, who left that city on the morning of June 24, with a chartered Pullman and 20 persons for a tour of California and the National Parks, was drowned at Catalina Island, near Long Beach, California, last Monday. Dr. Danforth was to leave Warren on July 25 to escort another tour for the same places. No details of the accident are known. The party will continue the tour to Seattle, and Vancouver, returning via Yellowstone National Park as outlined. Dr. Danforth's body is expected to arrive in Warren on Sunday.”

July 13, 1925 [The Kane Republic]: “Funeral services for Dr. Danforth today. Funeral services for Dr. Joseph T. Danforth, well known dentist, of Warren, was held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church at that place. Mr. Danforth was heading a western touring party which included Mrs. Cora Danforth, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. McDade, and Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Short, of this city, and was drowned Friday, July 3rd while bathing in Avalon Bay, Catalina Islands. Those who attended the funeral from Kane were: Mrs. Joshua Davis, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. George E. Bender, and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Watkins.”
