Emil (#230776) (1926-1938), 62.1-foot wood-hulled diesel fishing vessel which sprang a leak and sank two miles off Willows Harbor on the south side of Santa Cruz Island on December 1, 1938. Her holds contained sardines at the time. Pumps kept her from sinking too quickly, and the boat Nuova Italia stood by to give assistance to her crew, cutting loose her net. The following day the tug Retriever attempted to salvage Emil to no avail. Adverse weather hampered salvage rescue attempts. At the time, she had ten crew aboard, all of whom were saved.
