December 26, 1957 [San Bernardino County Sun): “Woman in jeep killed. Avalon, Santa Catalina Island—A housewife was killed and her husband and another woman injured yesterday in a jeep accident on this island some 20 miles off the California coast. Sheriff's Constable J.W.R. Windle identified the dead woman as Mrs. Helen Frew, 35, of Avalon. Windle said her husband, Robert, 36, and Mrs. Patricia Madsen, 19, also of Avalon, were injured when the jeep rolled down an embankment near the airport. Mrs. Madsen's husband, James, and Frew's 7-year-old daughter, Pamela, excaped unhurt, Windle said.”
