FRITZ, George Phillip (1937-1968), drowned while diving at Santa Catalina Island. He was 30 years old. Fritz is buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Bakersfield, CA.

May 5, 1968 [San Bernardino County Sun]: “Diver drowns at Catalina. Avalon — C. Phillip Fritz, 25, of Bakersfield drowned yesterday while skin diving in the ocean near Santa Catalina Island. Fellow divers recovered his body.”

May 6, 1968 [Long Beach Independent]: “Scuba diver, 25, drowns. A 25-year-old Bakersfield man drowned in Avalon Harbor waters Sunday while scuba diving from a pleasure craft. Sheriff's deputies said C. Phillip Fritz was pulled aboard the boat and taken to Avalon Hospital where he was dead on arrival at 2:15 p.m. His body was taken to Los Angeles County morgue by sheriff's helicopter.”
