'''July 24, 1959 [Independent, Long Beach]:''' “Wins Boat Jackpot, Falls Dead. A 54-year-old angler died from an apparent heart attack Thursday aboard the sport fishing boat, ''Fisherman'', minutes after he caught a 49-1/4-pound yellowtail which won the jackpot for the day. Eddie Glen Gamble of West Los Angeles was pronounced dead by Deputy County Coroner Henry C. Ehrenkranz, who met the boat at Pacific Landing. Gamble was stricken off Catalina Island. Earlier he had presented Capt. Eddie McEwen, 2550 Canal Ave., skipper of the ''FIsherman'', with a metal plaque, which reads: "Lord grant this day that I catch a fish so large that even I in speaking of it afterward, shall have no need to lie." Gamble then brought in the huge fish. After the 30-minute battle with it he complained to McEwan of a pain in his chest. The captain got some pills out of Gamble's tackle box, but the fisherman collapsed. The body is at a Santa Monica mortuary where a coroner's examination is pending.”
