May 30, 2016 [LAT]: “A search is on for two San Fernando Valley men who went missing on a weekend trip to Catalina Island. Jason Glazier, 52, of Encino and Edmond Haronian, 50, of Woodland Hills flew from Van Nuys to Catalina Island Saturday morning. They took off on the return leg of their trip about 1 p.m. Saturday and haven’t been heard from since. “He’s not the type to just not respond. He’d find a way to let us know where he is,” said Jonathan Haronian, the missing man’s son. Haronian is an insurance broker. His family said he’s been taking flying lessons for a year. He couldn’t fly on his own over water, so Glazier, his instructor, went with him. According Haronian’s family, there’s been no activity on his cellphones or credit cards since Saturday. The LA County Sheriff’s Department and the Coast Guard have been searching by helicopter for the men and the plane.”
May 31, 2016 [LAT]: “A search is underway for a student pilot and his flight instructor after their small plane disappeared over the coast of Catalina Island during the Memorial Day weekend. Edmond Haronian, 50, of Woodland Hills and his instructor, Jason Glazier, 52, of Encino have been missing since Saturday when their single-engine Cessna 172 never landed at its intended destination. The aircraft departed Catalina Island Airport on Saturday afternoon, but failed to arrive on time at Van Nuys Airport, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said. The FAA alerted authorities that the plane was overdue,” he said. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are searching for the missing aircraft. The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search late Monday after it said “no signs of any aircraft or anyone in distress” were found. Haronian’s family commissioned three helicopters to help rescuers search for the aircraft during the weekend. At least one helicopters was aiding in Tuesday’s search. Just hours before the two men disappeared, a smiling Haronian posted several photographs on Facebook showing him with the aircraft. “We have no clue where he is,” his brother, Edwin Haronian, said. “The plane has not been found.” He had been flying for about a year at the Van Nuys-based Encore Flight Academy. Haronian had exchanged a few text messages the day he disappeared, but has not been heard from since, his brother said. Haronian was recently featured in a Times story about the role of insurance agents in California’s Obamacare enrollment. Haronian was recognized as a top producer in enrolling people in Obamacare. He told The Times he enrolled more than 1,000 people in the program.”
June 1, 2016 [VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com): “Dozens of friends and family of a student pilot who went missing over the weekend packed a Calabasas temple to pray for his safe return. Edmond Haronian, a Woodland Hills insurance broker, went missing Saturday after he and his instructor flew to Catalina Island. “We still haven’t given up hope,” said Rose Haronian, his ex-wife. “That’s why we are here, to pray for him. Pictures on Facebook show that Haronian arrived and his family says witnesses saw them take off again, but they never returned to Van Nuys Airport. So far, searches by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the Coast Guard, and private searches have turned up nothing. Haronian’s son says they need answers and closure. “Something that we can work off of because right now, it’s unbelievable that a plane just goes missing in thin air,” said Eddie Bardi, his son. A representative from the flight school, Encore Flight Academy, says there was no distress call. They’ve also sent out search teams and found nothing. The school says the instructor, Jason Glazier, has 30 years of experience and the plane was in excellent condition. Haronian’s family says they’ll keep searching until they know what happened.”
