Doug Grant, Santa Catalina Island

GRANT, Douglas Gibbs (b. 1951), youngest of four children born to Campbell and Lou Grant in Hollywood California. He grew up on his grandfather Wolcott Tuckerman’s ranch and is a third generation Carpinterian. Grant graduated from Carpinteria High School in 1969 and had a brief career as a professional motocross racer. Ultimately he earned a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and worked in many disciplines of mechanical design including aerospace and biomedical engineering. Doug was married for 20 years and raised 3 daughters, Tiffany-Jean, Macauley and Channing. Upon retirement from engineering after 20 years, Doug went into the building trade and became a licensed general contractor. Today, Doug is semi-retired and enjoys boating, SCUBA diving and travel, including visiting the Channel Islands.

As a member of a dive club, he aspired to set foot on all eight California Channel Islands, a goal he achieved in 2019. He visited Santa Barbara and San Clemente islands alone aboard his 22 foot boat with a gas outboard, departing from Santa Barbara Harbor and getting fuel several times at Two Harbors, Santa Catalina Island during his journey.
