As a member of a dive club, he aspired to set foot on all eight California Channel Islands, a goal he achieved in 2019. He visited Santa Barbara and San Clemente islands alone aboard his 22 foot boat with a gas outboard, departing from Santa Barbara Harbor and getting fuel several times at Two Harbors, Santa Catalina Island during his journey.
