HAZARD, Caroline (1856-1945), Rhode Island-born daughter of Rowland Gibson Hazard and Margaret Rood Hazard; educator, author, artist and former president of Wellesley College for 21 years (1899-1910) who moved to Santa Barbara full-time in 1923. In 1888-1889 she traveled by horse and buggy on a painting tour of the California missions. She donated land and buildings in Mission Canyon to house the newly expanded Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, formerly the Museum of Comparative Oology. She died in Santa Barbara on March 19, 1945.
