HENNE, Christopher

HENNE, Christopher (1905-1977) [SS#549-01-0964], Colorado-born self-taught entomologist who began collecting butterflies at age four. He spent most of his life in southern California where he worked in a variety of emtomology-related job, including display preparation and teaching at the Los Angeles County Museum. Henne was a member of the 12th Los Angeles County Museum Channel Islands expedition February14-April 9, 1941 to San Clemente, Santa Catalina, Anacapa, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands, along with George Kanakoff, Lloyd Martin, Reid Moran, John Shrader, Jack Von Bloeker, Ona Von Bloeker, and George and Ora Willett. Henne collected insects with Von Bloeker on Anacapa in March 1941. Collecting companions also included John Adams Comstock and Lloyd Martin.
Henne and his wife, Dorothy, retired to Pearblossom, California, where he devoted full-time to collecting. He died at age 72. In 1977 his collection of 36, 896 specimens, 88% of which is moths, was purchased by the Los Angeles County Museum. Eight species and subspecies are named for Henne.
