HENSLEY, Mark (c. 1964-1989), diver who drowned on a trip to Santa Rosa Island aboard the commercial dive boat Vision owned by Truth Aquatics of Santa Barbara.

December 18, 1989 [Santa Maria Times]: “ Ventura— A Grover City man died while scuba diving Saturday morning off Carrington Point, Santa Rosa Island, according to the Ventura Sheriff's Department coroner's office. Mark Hensley, 25, was with his brother, Mike, and wife, Carol. The had left Santa Barbara on the dive boat Vision and began diving at 7 a.m., according to the coroner's report. Mark and Mike were dive partners and Mike became low on air and surfaced, but Mark elected to continue diving, the coroner's report said. They were in about 80 feet of water searching for game, according to the coroner. When Mark failed to surface in about 25 minutes, a search was launched for the missing diver. He was found about 45 minutes later beneath the surface with an empty tank of air, and was subsequently air lifted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled today.”
