HOWLAND, William Percival (1865-1892), second child born to William Roberto Garcia Howland and his wife, and Sarah Ann Howland, on April 8, 1865, and said to be the first American child to be born on Santa Catalina Island. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Los Angeles. [Note: Louisa Behn was born on the island in 1856 to a German father and Spanish mother.]

January 8, 1892 [LAT]: “Died. Howland—In this city, Thursday, January 7, 1892, William P. Howland, aged 26 years, 9 months and 29 days. Funeral will take place from his mother’s (Mrs. S. A. Howland) residence, No. 126 W. Pico Street, near Main Street, Sunday afternoon at 2 P.M. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend.”

February 26, 1892 [LAT]: “Department Two. Judge Torrance (pro tem). Estate of William P. Howland, deceased; letters.”
