HOYE, Edward B. (1910-1971) [#568-14-8092], drowned while SCUBA diving at Parson's Landing, Santa Catalina Island on August 18, 1971. He was 60 years old.

August 19, 1971 [Independent Long Beach]: “Diver, 60, drowns off Catalina. A 60-year-old Hermosa Beach man drowned Wednesday at Parson's Landing at Catalina while skin diving for abalone, sheriff;s deputies said. Edward B. Hoye, of 1925 Bayview Drive, was diving with Tom Cornelius, of 99 Rivo Alto Canal, Long Beach, in 35 feet of water when the accident occurred. Cornelius told deputies he surfaced from a dive and failed to see Hoye. Following a call for help a boat skippered by Dr. John Caroimpas, of Newport Beach, came by and Cornelius and the doctor succeeded in bringing Hoye to the surface. The victim, flown from the island by a Coast Guard helicopter, was pronounced dead on arrival at Harbor General Hospital at 5:30 p.m.”
