February 21, 1972 [Long Beach Independent]: “Lete Saturday, 56-year-old unemployed engineer George Jones, of Altadena, drowned in Big Fisherman Cove off Catalina after apparently falling from the deck of his sailboat, authorities reported Sunday. Jones was pulled from the water by three unidentified USC marine biology students who swam out from shore in a futile effort to save the man, sheriff's deputies said. Jones apparently was alone on his 30-foot yawl at the time of the accident, according to deputies.”
