July 26, 1971 [LBI]: “Respiration fails. La Canada man drowns off Catlaina. A 49-year-old La Canada man drowned Sunday while swimming off a charter boat near Catalina Island. Investigators said Robert E. Jones was swimming with his wife, Elizabeth, when he went under and failed to surface. She brought him up from a depth of 10 feet and administered artificial respiration aboard the boat for 10 minutes in a vain attempt to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene aboard the Rio Rita, chartered out of San Pedro.”
