Jean Kruydt
Royal Majesty Ship Andania, Cunard

KRUYDT, Jean (1881-1946), Santa Cruz Island laborer, born in Teste, France (near Bordeaux), and worked as a farmer. He married at age 27, and had two daughters and a son.

In May 1924, Kruydt immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, aboard Cunard's Andania out of Cherbourg, France. From there he went to Yarmouth, MA in 1927. By 1930 he was working in California on Santa Cruz Island according to the 1930 census. [Note: Although the 1930 census lists him as widowed, he left behind his wife and three children —this according to his grandson, Jean-Pierre Kruydt, who contacted ISLAPEDIA in October 2018 from Bordeaux, France, and who provided his photograph and additional biographical information.]

Kruydt returned to France, where he died September 19, 1946 in Gujan Mestras.
