Land of Sunshine (1894-1902) was founded in 1894 in Los Angeles as an illustrated monthly magazine similar to Overland Monthly. It was originally founded to promote Southern California, but in 1902 its editor, Charles Lummis, broadened the magazine’s scope to include the Southwest (Arizona and New Mexico), and so the name was changed to Out West. Lummis stayed with the publication until 1909, after which several editors worked for the dwindling publication. Out West in turn merged with Overland Monthly in 1923 until it expired in 1935.
