MORGAN, Frank A.
MORGAN, Frank A. (1898-1976), geologist who discovered the Ellwood oil fields near Santa Barbara in 1928. In 1938 as an employee of Richfield Oil Company, Morgan and fellow geologist, Harold Hoots, made arrangements with Vail & Vickers to map the geology of Santa Rosa Island. Morgan invited Rodman Cross and Thomas Dibblee, fellow Stanford geology graduates, to spent two weeks in November of 1938 riding the island mapping its geology. No lease resulted from their investigations, however.
