July 26, 1934 [TI/Avalon]: “E. R. McCormick, age 43, of 342 Metropole Avenue, was killed instantly Monday [July 23] when a premature landslide at the Rohl-Connolly rock quarry cut off his attempt to escape. Rock and gravel weighing several tons had to be removed before the body could be recovered. The remains were sent to Los Angeles for burial. Mr. McCormick was an eperienced miner and had been employed at the quarry for several months. He was held in high esteem by his fellow workers. He is survived by his widow. Several relatives who reside in the east also mourn his sudden and accidental death.”
