November 30, 1961 [News-Pilot, San Pedro]: “Boat founders; port men alive. Three men took to a skiff and abandoned the 45-foot fishing boat Minnie Bell yesterday afternoon when it struck a rock and sank off San Clemente Island, the Coast Guard said. Two of the men were identified as John Todd, of 2504 Pacific Coast Hwy., Lomita, owner of the boat; and Carl Davidson, 1468 McDonald Ave., Wilmington, operator. The third man was unidentified. The crew was taken from the skiff by the State Fish & Game Department boat Bluefin, transferred to a Coast Guard cutter from Terminal Island and taken to Newport Beach. Details of the sinking and extent of the loss were unavailable at press time.”
