NGUYEN, Belinda Joanne (c. 1993-2015) was fatally struck by a boat propeller while snorkeling at the Isthmus on September 10. She was 22 years old.

Belinda Nguyen, 22, of Los Angeles, was swimming near Two Harbors Moorings just after noon Thursday when she was struck by a boat. Nguyen was killed on impact, when the boat's propeller struck her in the head, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. She had been snorkeling in the mooring field in the Isthmus Cove, according to the sheriff's department. Nguyen, who family members said grew up in Los Feliz, had been living on Catalina Island for some time. Harbor Patrol responded and recovered Nguyen’s body from the water. A cause for the collision was not immediately released, and an investigation into her death is underway, officials said. No other information was immediately available.

Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was struck in the head by a boat’s propeller while snorkeling near Isthmus Cove Thursday afternoon. The woman, 22-year-old Belinda Joanne Nguyen, was declared dead at the scene shortly after 12:10 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Avalon Sheriff’s Station, Two Harbors Harbor Patrol and Isthmus Baywatch personnel responded to the accident. Her body was transported by Sheriff’s rescue helicopter, Air-5, personnel to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
