NIDEVER, Marcos "Mark" Ramon

NIDEVER, Marcos “Mark” Ramon (1842-1909), oldest of six children born to George Nidever and Sinforosa Sanchez Nidever. Manuela Cota and Nicholas Den were his Godparents. Mark, like his father, was a man of the sea. He never married. He died of ricketts on September 27, 1909 at age 63. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery without a headstone, along with his parents and brother Jacob.

Great Register of the County of Santa Barbara 1877 lists Marcos Nidever as a California-born sailor, registered on August 13, 1875.

April 9, 1905 [LAT]: “Personal. Mark Nidever, write or call your old friend, Gus, 3304 Pasadena Avenue, Los Angeles.”

October 1, 1909 [SBI]: “The funeral of Marcus Nidever took place at 2:00 o’clock this afternoon from the church of Our Lady of Sorrows. Internment was in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Nidever was born in California 65 years ago and was crippled while serving his county in foreign wars. He has been back here for two years, but was feeble after his misfortune and suffering. A large number gathered in the church to take part in the obsequies.”
