Elmer Noble and Marla Daily, Santa Rosa Island, c. 1979



NOBLE, Elmer Ray (1909-2001), professor of zoology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an internationally recognized protozoologist and parasitologist.

Noble was fascinated by the evidence of the presence of dwarf mammoths on Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands. He and fellow UCSB professor, John Cushing, and Marla Daily made several trips to these islands in search of mammoth bones, finding success on each trip.
