OGDEN, James B. ( - ) postmaster of Avalon beginning August 16, 1933 (acting) through June 2, 1938 when he was removed for donating federal funds to a democratic political campaign. A shortage in his accounts was discovered. He was replaced by Herbert A. Wegmann.

Ogden.—At its morning session of July 15, 1938, the Committee considered the following letter of July 15, 1938, from Hon. Homer Cummings, the Attorney General, submitting a transcript of proceedings heard before Hon. Harry A. Hollzer, United States Judge for the Southern District of California, regarding Mr. James B. Ogden, former Acting Postmaster at Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California:

My Dear Senator: enclosed herewith is a transcript of proceedings heard before Hon. Harry A. Hollzer, United States Judge for the Southern District of California, in which one James B. Ogden testified in substance that he was required, while acting as postmaster at Catalina Island, to contribute a certain percentage of his salary to campaign funds.
At the request of Judge Hollzer and the United States Attorney, the transcript of said testimony is referred to your committee for consideration.
