PEARSON, Oliver Payne

PEARSON, Oliver Payne (1915-2003), biologist who went to U.C. Berkeley as a student in zoology in 1946 at the end of World War II. In 1948 he was appointed Curator of Mammalogy in 1948; in 1966 he became Director of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. Pearson retired from MVZ in 1977, after which he continued to do field work in Argentina until shortly before his death. Pearson visited and collected specimens on Santa Cruz Island August 29-September 14, 1948 with Frank A. Pitelka. In 1954, Pearson also visited Santa Rosa Island where he collected mice with Gus M. Rosenthal, Jr. Pearson’s field notes are on file at the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, Berkeley.
