April 20, 1887 [LAT]: “Wrecked Near Point New Years. Santa Cruz, April 19.—On Sunday forenoon the small sloop Sadie, from San Francisco, bound for Santa Cruz, shipped a sea and filled off Point New Years. She soon struck the rocks. The keeper of the fog station went out to the rescue, and found only one man on board. Capt. Miller was thrown upon the rocks and badly bruised. He was recovered and taken to Año Nuevo Island, where he now remains.”

April 21, 1887 [San Francisco Chronicle]: “The sloop-yacht Sadie ran ashore at Año Nuevo Island last Sunday and was broken to pieces. Captain Miller was the only one on board, and he was rescued by the keepers of the lighthouse. The loss is $500.”
