Susie (#) (-1955), 30-foot cabin cruiser went down off the eastern end of San Clemente Island. All three passengers were rescued.

July 4, 1955 [News-Pilot, San Pedro]: “The Coast Guard, with all available men on duty, patrolled Southern California waters today in a hectic holiday weekend of heavy boat traffic and several sea mishaps. Coast Guardsmen rescued three men yesterday, seconds before their cruiser sank off San Clemente Island. The 30-foot cabin cruiser, Susie, hit rocks a mile east of San Clemente Island's west end and sank rapidly in 150 feet of water. Rescued from the cruiser were E. F. Johns, of Santa Ana, the boat's owner, and his two unidentified companions.”

July 5, 1955 [Wilmington Daily Press Journal]: “The 30-foot cabin cruiser Susie went down off the eastern end of San Clemente Island as her owner, E. F. Johns of Santa Ana and two passengers were rescued by the boat Reel Spirit. Coast Guard authorities said more than the usual number of boatmen ventured seaward in tiny craft.”
