Earle Ovington was named the first air mail pilot in the United States. The above cover, signed by pilot Earle Ovington, was flown from Scorpion Ranch, Santa Cruz Island, to the mainland on November 5, 1930.

The cover below, also signed by pilot Earle Ovington, is addressed to Bob Brooks, lessee of San Miguel Island. It was flown off Santa Cruz Island on July 1, 1931.
